This year, Free Comic Book Day is celebrating its 16th year introducing readers to the wonders of comics and falls on Saturday, May 6. There will be up to 50 titles that may be available at each participating location. DC Entertainment, Image Comics, Bongo Comics, and Marvel Comics will be among the many publishers offering titles that include Betty & Veronica, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Guardians of the Galaxy, The Tick, Attack on Titan, Animal Jam, Wonder Woman, and Doctor Who! Fortunately for Parma area residents, there are two incredible comic book shops participating in this annual event: B & L Comics and North Coast Nostalgia, both of which are conveniently located along Ridge Road in Parma’s Polish Village. PAC Ohio Division Carries on a 69-year Tradition Once again, the Ohio Division of the Polish American Congress (PAC) continues a 69-year tradition during the weekend of May 5 through May 7, with much of it taking place in Parma’s Polish Village! Since its founding in 1948, the Ohio Division of the PAC has annually sponsored Ohio’s ­official celebration of the signing of Poland’s Constitution of May 3, 1791. This month’s Business of the Month is P Jay’s Pizza located in the heart of Polish Village at 5859 Ridge Road. Mayor DeGeeter is honoring this business, not only for the food, but for the sense of community pride in this clean and well-run establishment. P. Jay’s opened in April, 1993 and has given back to the community in various ways during those 24 years – donating their famous pizza to numerous schools, churches, and charity events in the Parma area, sponsoring dozens of Parma Recreation leagues with t-shirts, and sponsoring Polish Village events. What is Flamingo Fever? The Old World Parma organization, to promote a sense of community and celebrate Parma’s cultural diversity, is once again sponsoring a public art exhibition. Artists as well as local citizens have applied their talent and creativity to a simple flamingo sculpture to create an assortment of unique pieces of public art.
